“I believe that every student can succeed if we meet him or her where they are now and we have high expectations for them,” Walpole said. “The success of all of my students is built on a relationship that begins with respect, trust, and love. If one of these is missing, students cannot reach their full social and academic potential.”

Walpole has been selected as the 2017 Teacher of the Year for Chandler Oaks Elementary. She has been an educator for 10 years with three of them at Chandler Oaks.

Thinking of difficult times throughout her childhood, Walpole recalls the kindness displayed from her teachers and their encouragement to never give up. Seeing the impact a positive role model can have on a child, she knew that she wanted to have the same affect on children. Her journey to the classroom may have had a few stops as she worked in accounting and regulatory affairs, but after self-reflection, decided to make a life change and pursue teaching.

“Every child who enters my classroom is like one of my own children,” Walpole said. “I know that most will do just fine with or without me, but it is the few that need my extra attention and support that define my role as a teacher. Without the love and support of my early educators, I probably would not be the person or teacher that I am today.”

Walpole’s classroom philosophy is one that provides students with emotional support and places emphasis on creating an atmosphere of high standards. She also believes that teachers must meet their individual needs for them to be successful.

Her attributes have earned Walpole a reputation for being a positive force on campus and an advocate for students, Chandler Oaks Principal Kelley Hirt said.

“Ms. Walpole is an excellent teacher and advocate for students,” Hirt said. “She accepts all students for who they are and strives to meet their individual needs. She builds positive and respectful relationships with every student and parent in her class. She always approaches a problem with a positive attitude and thinks about what she needs to do to be proactive and successful for students.”[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_raw_html]JTNDaWZyYW1lJTIwd2lkdGglM0QlMjI1NjAlMjIlMjBoZWlnaHQlM0QlMjIzMTUlMjIlMjBzcmMlM0QlMjJodHRwcyUzQSUyRiUyRnd3dy55b3V0dWJlLmNvbSUyRmVtYmVkJTJGMzlzLWZTTlU0OVUlMjIlMjBmcmFtZWJvcmRlciUzRCUyMjAlMjIlMjBhbGxvd2Z1bGxzY3JlZW4lM0UlM0MlMkZpZnJhbWUlM0U=[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row]
