The 2004 Larson Award for Quality School Transportation was presented to Round Rock ISD during the Annual Conference of the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) held in Cincinnati, Ohio. Accepting the award was Dan Roberts, RRISD director of transportation.
The Larson Quality Program was developed by NAPT to honor transportation departments that provide exceptional customer service in safety-centered operations. The winner receives a cash prize of $1,500 and a commemorative plaque.
To receive the award, a transportation department must successfully complete three distinct phases. First, applicants provide information on administrative and operational issues by completing a comprehensive questionnaire about their local operation. Applicants who receive exemplary Phase 1 assessments are invited to provide additional information and answer a variety of questions posed by a review committee. Applicants who receive exemplary Phase 2 assessments undergo an extensive on-site evaluation conducted by representatives of a review committee. A comparative analysis of those evaluations determines the winner.
The NAPT is a nonprofit organization that supports a $10.5 billion industry of more than 450,000 people who transport more than 24 million children every school day.
