Grades Kindergarten, 1 and 2 Report Cards
The RRISD Primary Report Card is a standards-based continuum, meaning that progress is reported on the knowledge and skills your child is expected to master at each grade level. The continuum is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and ranges from Performance Level 1 to Performance Level 4.
Level 1 - Exhibits skill/concept with direct guidance
Level 2 – Exhibits skill/concept with minimal guidance
Level 3 – Exhibits mastery of skill/concept
Level 4 – Exhibits understanding beyond grade level expectation.
A student shall be promoted if his or her report card reflects three of the following:
- Is marked at or above grade level in reading denoting no more than three indicators below a Level 3.
- Is marked at or above grade level in writing denoting no more than two indicators below a Level 3.
- Is marked at or above grade level in mathematics denoting no more than five indicators below a Level 3
- Is marked at least a Level 2 in all areas in social studies and science.
If this standard is not met, the teacher will communicate with the principal and parent(s) regarding the development of an improvement plan for the next grade.

Grades 3, 4 & 5 Report Cards
Your child’s report card reflects his/her performance on daily work, assessments, class participation, performance tasks, individual and group projects, and contributions beyond the assigned task. In grades 3–5, promotion from one grade level to the next shall be based on an overall average of 70 based upon grade-level standards for all subject areas, and a grade of 70 or above in both math and language arts, and either science or social studies.
Citizenship grades have been removed from the report card in grades 3-5. We continue to value good citizenship and the importance of recognizing students for their positive behaviors, and each campus continues to communicate with parents about their child’s behavior. The report card issued at the end of each quarter, however, only reports on each child’s academic progress. Report cards are one of several methods of communicating with parents. If you desire more information on your child’s academic progress or wish to discuss behavioral concerns, please contact your child’s teacher for a conference.
Student Success Initiative
The Student Success Initiative (SSI) was created by the Texas Legislature to ensure that all students receive the instruction and support they need to be academically successful in reading and mathematics.
Under the Student Success Initiative grade advancement requirements, students are given three opportunities to meet the required passing standard on the Grade 5 and 8 STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) reading and mathematics tests, in order to be promoted to sixth and ninth grade, respectively. The requirements also apply to students served by special education who take STAAR Modified assessments.
However, as we transition to the new assessment system, the grade advancement requirements of the SSI, related to successfully meeting the passing standard on the state assessments, was suspended for the 2011-2012 school year only.
