Abrakadoodle Art Education

Doodlers classes for grades 1 - 5    (Monday, Tuesday & Thursday classes)
Our Doodlers develop new skills and talents while creating their own unique masterpieces through painting, sculpting, sketching and exploring many other creative techniques throughout our four 6-week sessions this year. Each lesson and session this fall introduces new techniques and artistic styles, including classic artists like Cezanne and Rousseau, as well as modern Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama.  Lessons are designed to help children quickly achieve competency in many media and some of our projects are framed with our exclusive Framedoodles®  and Eco-Frames® to help proudly display each Doodler's work. Children develop skills and confidence while having a blast in Abrakadoodle!

DRAWSTERS™- Creative Drawing for Creative Kids

Join Abrakadoodles's DRAWsters CARTOON CREATIONS series for Fall 2009!  Abrakadoodles's one-of-a-kind Drawing program will introduce young artists to the creative world of cartooning by launching imaginations with spaceships and rockets, bouncing with Balloon People, and dreaming about what animals love.  Students will learn about symbolism on welcome flags, explore the whimsical world of Sandra Boynton characters, and learn to create in the kid-friendly geometric style of Ed Emberley!  And no cartooning adventure would be complete without creating our very own comic strip!  Each student will create his or her own comic frame featuring the tradtional elements of characters and dialogue.  Sequential Lessons allow children to build drawing skills and confidence!  Session I and Session II are built to be taken sequentially ideally but it is not necessary to do so.  Register today for the fall for maximum fun and learning!

Jazz/Hip Hop
If you want to learn the latest dance moves, this is the class for you! Participants will dance to upbeat music as they learn dance steps, leaps, turns and dance routines.

Junior Jazzercise

What is Jr. Jazzercise?  A fun-filled introduction to the lifelong benefits of exercise.  Kids will have a blast while they move to their favorite songs improving coordination, balance, posture, confidence and endurance to be stronger for any sport or activity!  This is a non-competitive atmosphere where boys and girls will be challenged and rewarded for their efforts.  45+ minutes of physical activity, games, and strength training!

Yoga-Doodles

Children learn both mental and physical yoga-inspired stress reduction techniques.  Each class consists of focused breathing, a variety of age appropriate postures and guided relaxation.  Benefits of the program include improved posture, increased muscle flexibility and enhanced concentration skills through breathing and centering exercises.  Taught by a licensed Chiropractor and registered Yoga teacher.  Students should wear loose comfortable clothing and will practice with bare feet.  Students should bring a sticky yoga mat (which can be purchased from the instructor for a fee of $15.)

  TUMBLEBUS is a full-sized school bus converted into a safe and fun gymnasium.  Our mobile mini-gym is air conditioned, fully padded and filled with state of the art equipment specifically designed for students in grades K - 5.  The TumbleBus has bars, beam, vault, ropes, rings, trampoline, a climber mountain, and much more!

TheaterPlay

TheaterPlay provides fun and exciting after-school drama programs.  TheaterPlay students gain greater confidence and self esteem through specialized theater games, improvisation, performing, character development, scene work, storytelling, physical awareness, thinking on your feet and teamwork.  Our programs are designed to encourage imagination, listening skills, communication, problem solving and social skills.  Whether destined for Broadway of the board room, TheaterPlay students will gain a variety of skills that will benefit them for life!

Martial Arts/Karate
With Austin Society of Karate

This class emphasizes respect for oneself, peers, teachers and parents. Participants will be taught the basic kick, hand strikes, and blocks of martial arts as well as self-defense, kidnapping awareness and prevention. Students wear protective helmets and arm padding during sparring exercises. A black karate uniform is required and may be purchased from the instructor for $35.00 or from an outside source. Additional fees are required for tournaments and belt tests.

Spanish II  (Conversational)                       

This lively continuation of the Spanish I course will continue to build on previous conversation skills. Your child will learn how to talk about and reference colors, ask questions and discuss daily weather and seasons. Additionally, he or she will be able to converse about and point to body parts, clothing items, animals and favorite pets.

Chinese Language 

Kids who come to Lango classes learn a new language, make developmental strides that will prepare them to succeed in school, gain an appreciation for other cultures and make new friends in the classroom, plus they have a great time in the process!  Lango's classes incorporate music, movement and games in the target language to teach verbal communication.  Teachers are native speakers who are fluent and speak Mandarin almost exclusively during class (full-immersion).  Students will first begin to understand words, then phrases, then sentences.  They will also begin to answer simple questions, speak in short phrases and then engage in simple conversation - and be on their way to becoming multi-lingual. 

An optional book ($10) and flashcard set ($7) are available from the teacher for purchase.

Make Your Own Action Computer Game

If you think playing computer games is fun, think what a blast learning to program your own games will be.  You will learn about creating sprites, objects, events and actions.  Design a room, make it look the way you want, add objects and play your game.  We will teach you how to display health, lives, scores and high score tables.  Using drag and drop programming you will create exciting, professional looking games.  Students will receive a CD with their game and the software to keep making games when they get home.

Making Stop Motion Movies 

Ever wanted to direct your own movies?  Do you like making up stories or enjoy animation?  Using digital cameras and Stop Motion Pro animation software, you will create stop-motion animated movies using Lego mini-figures.  You will then use video editing software to add titles, credits, dialog and sound effects.  You can design your own set with backgrounds, characters and scenery.  The stories are up to your imagination!  Students take homa a CD with their movies at the end of the class.

Lego Robotics: Beginning Challenges 

Learn how to build and program the amazing Lego® Mindstorms® NXT robots.  You will use your new skills to meet such challenges as battling an opponent at Robot Sumo or using sensors to navigate through obstacles.  The class will introduce programming concepts such as repeat loops and if/then statements, and the use of sensors.  This class can be taken by students with little or no experience with robotics.

Game Design

Come have fun creating games using Multimedia Fusion 2® - a powerful tool for rapid game development. You will dive into a series of hands-on projects to learn the basics of game logic, animation, scoring systems, level design and more.  When you are done, take home the games you made and rule the world.

Basic Lego Robotics

We will use the Lego NXT Robotics System to learn about and apply basic math skills while the kids enjoy building robots to accomplish their missions for the day.  Kids will use sensors and explorations and basic "research" as well as some basic robot programmin on the Lego NXT brick.  (There is no computer programmin in this class.)  Kids will also learn and reinforce learning o fmath, measurement, geomety, critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork.
