Jesús H. Chávez, Ph.D.
Superintendent
Jesús Honorio Chávez was born in Brownsville, Texas. He entered Texas Southmost College in Brownsville in 1976 where he received an Associate of Arts degree in 1977. He attended The University of Texas at Austin from 1977-1978, and received a Bachelor of Science degree with highest honors. He attended Pan American University at Brownsville and received a Masters of Education in August 1981. In June 1983, he registered at the University of Texas at Austin to pursue full-time studies at the doctoral level. Dr. Chávez received his doctorate degree in May 1989.
Dr. Chávez began his career in education as a third grade teacher with Brownsville ISD in 1979. The district promoted him to an assistant principal from 1981 to 1983. He was employed by the Round Rock Independent School District in January 1985 as a central office administrator, director and assistant superintendent.
In 1995 Dr. Chávez was named Superintendent for Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District. The district was Recognized four years in a row, and 20 of 21 schools were designated as Recognized.
Dr. Chávez served as Superintendent of Schools for the Corpus Christi Independent School District in July 2001. In February 2006 he was hired as Superintendent of the Round Rock Independent School District.
Dr. Chávez believes that “Equity, Efficiency and Excellence” are hallmarks of a successful partnership among families, staff and patrons in any educational system. He describes the ideal district as having strong academics, fine arts and athletic programs for all students. During his time as Superintendent of Round Rock ISD, he continues to focus on creating exemplary schools where students come first.
Dr. Chávez and his wife of 30 years, Martha Ruth, have 2 children: Jesse and Jaime.
