All five high schools in Round Rock ISD (Cedar Ridge, McNeil, Round Rock, Stony Point, and Westwood) offer fine arts programs of study under the Professional Studies Academy. Pathways include: Band, Choir, Dance, Orchestra, Theatre, and Visual Art.
Additionally the Visual and Performing Arts Academies at Cedar Ridge High School and Westwood High School offer a variety of unique learning experiences for students in grades 9 – 12. These programs increase course choices and allow students to study subjects in greater depth. The Visual and Performing Arts Academy also provides students with opportunities to interact and collaborate with other students teachers. amd professional performers and artists. Areas of special interest in the Academy are visual art, music, theatre, and dance. Based on student choices, specialized courses within these four strands include subjects such as advanced drawing and ceramics, ballet, jazz dance, tap dance, theatre directing, stage makeup, costume and set design, musical theatre, piano, and music theory technology workshop.
Cedar Ridge High School opened in the fall of 2010 and Westwood High School is an award-winning school with a national reputation for academic excellence. Listed as one of the top 100 high schools in America by Newsweek in 2003, Westwood offers students choices in the International Baccalaureate program, a comprehensive Advanced Placement program, and a wide variety of highly successful extracurricular activities.
With outstanding faculty and a multi-talented student body, the Visual and Performing Arts Academies are another exemplary program offered by Round Rock ISD.
