"The Fine Arts Program in Round Rock ISD strives for excellence and balance in Visual Arts, Choir, Orchestra, Band, Dance, Theatre Arts, Elementary Music, and Elementary Art, Teachers individually and collectively strive to address the needs of all students entering our programs.

The involvement of ALL students at the elementary school level in Fine Arts is not only crucial to their success with secondary visual and performing arts, but is vital in the development of their problem solving and social skills as well as enriching their lives as adults.

Round Rock ISD also provides an Individual Music Instruction Program (IMIP) for middle and high school band, choir and orchestra students.  Check out the attached brochure for more detailed information.

MIDI for Kids logoMany Round Rock ISD elementary students have a great opportunity to join the MIDI for Kids program.  The program is designed to teach music reading, keyboard playing, improvision and critical thinking skills.  Guitars classes are also taught on select campuses. This is an after school class being taught to students of Blackland Prairie-Guitars & Keyboards, Bluebonnet-Keyboards,Brushy Creek - Guitars & Keyboards, Great Oaks-Keyboards, Jollyville-Keyboards, Pond Springs-Keyboards, Teravista-Keyboards, and Union Hill-Keyboards.  Research shows that children participating in music ensembles have higher academic success in better critical thinking skills!

Advantages of teaching music with MIDI for Kids Curriculum:

  1. Students score higher on standarized tests.
  2. Cross curricular connections are made with math and language.
  3. Rhythm skills help students learn fractions better.
  4. Music study encourages self-directed learning and self-discipline.
  5. Students develop a keen ability to engage in sustained and focused attention.
  6. Music study develops ability to organize thoughts and ideas into meaningful units.

 

Advantages of on-side After School Music Programs (ASMP) are:

  1. Convenient. No drive time, classes are right at school!
  2. Safe. No need to worry about where your child is or what he or she is doing after school.
  3. Fun and exciting. Kids are motivated by other kids and interested in the "technology."
  4. Affordable
