Two webmasters work collaboratively with Information Services and Community Relations to provide overall management of the main Round Rock ISD site. Information Services manages the web server and technical aspects of the site and Community Relations provides direction for the message, design and function of the site.
The webmasters also support campus websites and other web initiatives through the development of standards, guidelines, best practices, and training. However, campuses and district departments are responsible for the routine development and maintenance of web pages and related content.
More information is available in the Web Communications Guide [PDF].
Each campus is responsible for creating and maintaining a consistent and uniform site that is easy to navigate and use. The design and layout of campus websites should be approved by the principal. The district currently supports the use of Microsoft Expressions Web for developing and maintaining school websites. This tool allows schools the flexibility to develop sites with their own unique identity and style. All campus sites must be created in Microsoft Expressions Web and must be hosted on internal servers.
Round Rock ISD has implemented a template-based content management tool (CMT) to help manage the design and navigation of its district website. The CMT allows content providers and maintainers with little knowledge or experience with HTML to produce well-designed communications while focusing on content. All departments are required to use the district's CMT for their external department pages. Departmental sites created on 3rd party software, such as Google Sites, Blogger or Weebly will not be made available for the public.
