State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR™)
Beginning in spring 2012, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR™) will replace the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). All students in grades 3-8 will take a STAAR assessment in reading and mathematics each year, students in grades 4 and 7 will be tested in writing, students in grades 5 and 8 will be tested in science, and students in grade 8 will be tested in social studies.
High School level TAKS has been replaced with 12 end-of-course (EOC) exams for the following high school classes: Algebra I, geometry, Algebra II, biology, chemistry, physics, English I, English II, English III, world geography, world history, and U.S. history. As of the 2011-2012 school year, entering 9th graders will use EOC exams to meet graduation requirements. The exit level TAKS will continue to be the graduation requirement for students currently enrolled in 10th, 11th and 12th grades.

Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPES)
The English Language Proficiency System measures English Language Learners (ELLs) growth in listening, speaking, reading and writing in English. Students receive a rating of begining, intermediate, advanced, or advanced high in each domain. All ELLs in kindergarten through 12th grade are tested each spring until they are exited from dual language, bilingual, or English as a second language programs.

Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS)
The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was first administered during the 2002-03 school year, replacing the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS). The TAKS assessment will now be phased out and replaced the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR™). Students currently enrolled in 10th and 11th grades will take the TAKS test in all four core subject areas: English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Satisfactory performance on the TAKS at exit level is a prerequisite to a high school graduation for these students.
