This handbook contains extensive information on scholarships, grants, and loans for veteran’s dependants.  Come by the Counseling Center for more information.
  DECA SCHOLARSHIP GUIDE
Numerous scholarships are available for DECA members.  See DECA Guide in Counseling Center for details.
  TERRY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP- UT AUSTIN, TX A&M, U OF HOUSTON, TX STATE, UTSA & UT DALLAS
Terry Foundation scholarships are awarded to seniors who have been admitted to the universities listed.  Applications are available only from the Offices of Financial Aid at the universities.
 

TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY – GEOSCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP
Financially needy students interested in pursuing a degree in Oceanography, Environmental Geosciences, Geology, Geophysics, and Meteorology.  For more information contact:  Jana Corley at

JANUARY 9 RON BROWN SCHOLAR PROGRAM
African American graduating seniors, that plan to attend a four-year college or university.  Student should demonstrate academic achievement, exhibit leadership ability, participate in community in community service and demonstrate financial need.   For more information visit www.ronbrown.org.
JANUARY 12

THE GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARS
Must have a least a 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.  Have exhibited leadership through community service.  Student must be African-American, Native American, Hispanic American and Asian Pacific American students.  Have significant financial need as defined by the Federal needs analysis formula.  Students must be nominated/recommended by an educator.  Application may be completed online, by logging onto www.gmsp.org.  See website for details and guidelines.

JANUARY 16

UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN, COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING/GEISINGER

The Geisinger Scholarships is awarded to non-Michigan resident students from selected geographic areas. Twelve scholarships in the amount of $20,000 annually over four years will be rewarded.

JANUARY 22

HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW & RODEO-GO TEXAN SCHOLARSHIP

Student must be ranked in the upper third of their class.  See application for further requirements.  Students do not have to a member of 4-H or FFA or have exhibited at our Show. Must have a minimum of 1350 on the SAT or 19 on ACT. 

JANUARY 25

MCKELVEY FOUNDATION ENTREPRENEURIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Available to high school seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating their own business while in high school. 

JANUARY 31 SIMON YOUTH FOUNDATION COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP

Selection criteria includes academic record, leadership skills, participation in school and

community activities, and financial need.  To apply visit the website at www.syf.org.

TEXAS STUDENT HOUSING AUTHORITY SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarships are open to students accepted to participating Texas University for their education.  Criteria’s to be evaluated SAT/ACT scores, 3.0 GPA, leadership ability, financial need, character, extracurricular activities, volunteerism, employment record and personal interview.

A.C.E. AWARDS, EXCHANGE CLUB OF AUSTIN
Good academic achievement, extracurricular activities & community service.  Recognize students that have overcome “major obstacle in their life to graduate from high school.  Obstacles: i.e., physical, mental or emotional abuse, physical disabilities, drug addiction, homelessness, to name a few.

ANGELO STATE UNIVERSITY- CARR ACADEMIC

SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis, with

priority given to individuals of high academic ability with

financial need.  Applications are available online via the ASU

website at www.angelo.edu.

PHI DELTA KAPPA SCHOLARSHIPS

Available to graduating African American male and  female seniors

who plan to enter a four-year college and major in education.

Two separate scholarships are available.

Annual National Educational Scholarship – Due 2/1/09

FEBRUARY 2

BURGER KING SCHOLARS FOUNDATION AWARD
Students must have cumulative a GPA of 2.5 or higher on 4.0 scale, work an average of 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (part-time year-round), participate in community service and/or co-curricular activities, and demonstrate financial need.  Apply online at www.bk.com/scholars. 

FEBRUARY 10

KFC COLONEL’S SCHOLARS                      Outstanding seniors with financial need and entrepreneurial spirit may qualify.  Must maintain a H.S. GPA of 2.75 or higher, enroll in public college or university within their state of legal residence, and pursue a bachelor’s degree.

FEBRUARY 14 ZONTA INTERNATIONAL-YOUNG WOMEN IN PUBLIC AFFAIRS SCHOLARSHIP                             Young women are encouraged to apply if they show evidence of active commitment to volunteerism, leadership achievements, and dedication to advancing the status on women worldwide.
FEBRUARY 15 THE NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR COOPERATIVE EDUCATION 200 Merit Scholarships OF $6,000 each from participating College & Universities.  See Counseling Center for more details.
FEBRUARY 15 AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP                           To qualify you must demonstrate ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals.  Respect for self, family and community and ability to succeed in college.  Go to www.axa-achievement.com to learn more about scholarship programs.
FEBRUARY 15 RONALD McDONALD HACER SCHOLARSHIP    Senior students planning to attend college, financial need will be considered.  Four programs including:  Asian, African American, Hispanic, and Scholars (all students regardless of race, etc.).  Separate scholarship application available for each program.
FEBRUARY 28

THE CZECH HERITAGE SOCIETY OF TEXAS-VICTOR PETER MEMORIAL                                                       Senior students with interest in Czech culture who plan to attend a four year college or university.  See application for details.

MARCH 1 THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA ALUMNI CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
$2000 is being offered to an outstanding student who plans on attending OU.  This scholarship is only for incoming freshmen that have been accepted for admission to OU.  See website for details, www.ouclubofaustin.com.
MARCH 13

W. NEAL KOCUREK/ST.DAVID’S FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarships will be awarded to applicants pursuing a health-care profession.  The scholarship requirements and application are online at www.sdchf.org. 

MARCH 23 THE GARDEN CLUB AUSTIN

Selections will be based on the applicant’s interest in horticulture or closely related field, academic performance, and financial need.

MARCH 31

THE GOSS-MICHAEL FOUNDATION

Senior students who would like to pursue a college education in visual arts.  This is a merit based scholarship in the amount of $5000. 
APRIL 1

RRHS BASEBALL BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
Student must be in RRHS Baseball program Jr. and Sr. year. Must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher at mid-term Senior year. Plan to attend a 2 or 4 year school after graduation.

JUNE 10

Al'S FORMAL WEAR, ASCOT TUXEDOS AND BRIDESMART-SAULTE TO EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Every senior student is welcome to go by Al's Formal Wear, Ascot Tuxedos and BridesMart locations to pick-up a scholarship application. For complete rules visit www.alsformalwear.com. Flyers with more information are available in the Counselor Center.
 

AUGUST 31

WILL TO WIN - SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Sponsored by Schering-Plough, the "Will to Win" program will grant $50,000 in scholarships to 2 high school seniors who have achieved success Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Community Service, Athletics or Science, despite the challenge of asthma.
