Volunteer Information: Urgent

Recent state legislation attempting to improve student safety requires any person wishing to volunteer agree to a Name Based Criminal History Check. This is in addition to the Raptor System, which compares all visitor names against sexual offender databases and is currently implemented at all RRISD campuses. If you regularly volunteer and your efforts meet any of the following criteria, please complete the online application no later than Jan. 20, 2009.

  • You are a Parent or non-Parent volunteers and may be unaccompanied at any time by a RRISD employee (.i.e., Mentors, WatchDog Dads, classroom, cafeteria, library and field-day volunteers, dance and field trip chaperones, etc.)
  • You are not a parent, grandparent or guardian of a student enrolled on the campus where you will be volunteering.
  • A RRISD Administrator requests you complete a volunteer application.

Six Flags Read to Succeed!

Six Flags theme parks, Weekly Reader, and Sommer Elementary are pleased to offer the 2008-2009 Read to Succeed® program. The program features the Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club®, which encourages kids in grades K through 6 to complete six hours of recreational reading and be rewarded with free admission tickets to participating Six Flags theme parks. Homework and class lessons do not count. Recreational reading can include  newspapers, comic books, novels, and nonfiction books. Kids can read on their own, or parents can read to the younger students.  This is an optional program for students to participate in.

Visit Weekly Reader's website for more information or contact Heather Solis in the Sommer Library at 464-0615.

The program starts January 8, 2009.  If you are participating, your completed form must be turned in by February 20, 2009.  There will be no late submissions accepted because of Weekly Reader's timeline to process the requests.

The Sommer Breeze is Green!

All issues of the Sommer Breeze are distributed electronically through the district E-News. If you haven’t signed up you may go to http://www.roundrockisd.org and look on the left hand side where it says "subscribe." It is a simple process. If you do not have internet access and are unable to subscribe, please let your child’s teacher know. We will continue to make paper copies for those that need them. Thank you for your support in our effort to help the environment.
