Three RRISD students qualify for World Youth Chess Championships

Three Round Rock ISD chess students have qualified for the 2013 World Youth Chess Championships in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, taking place December 17 through 29.

Cactus Ranch Elementary student Anh Nguyen has been selected to represent the U.S. in the girls under age 8 category and Canyon Vista Middle School student Emily Nguyen qualified in the U.S. girls under 12 category. Laurel Mountain Elementary student Rithik Polavaram has been selected to represent the U.S. boys under age 8 category.

Qualifications for the World Youth Chess Championships are based on players’ ratings through the U.S. Chess Federation. USCF representatives select the top rated players in each age and gender category to qualify for the youth world championships.
