[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There are no students at Anderson Mill Elementary. This school, which opened in 1977, is home to 541 scholars.
While scholar means “student”, this unique way of referring to students is the school’s way of empowering students to embrace their education, culture and differences, while aspiring for great things in their future.
“Anderson Mill is a very diverse campus from the scholars that are served to the adults providing the services.” said principal Trana Allen. The staff has members who speak English, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Korean, and Hindi and even more languages are represented among the student body. Walking the building you will find scholars learning at “standing desks”, creative learning spaces, folding tables and stools and maybe the outside amphitheater.
Anderson Mill is community of generosity. There is a “free” service happening everyday after school. It might be a dance or theater lesson provided by a staff member or working in the garden led by community members and retired staff.
Anderson Mill emerges scholars in unique programs. The school has a Two Way Dual Language program. They are one of two schools on the west side of RRISD that offers this program – one that provides instruction in the core content to English Language Learners and Spanish Language Learners in English and Spanish.
Anderson Mill Elementary is an IB, or International Baccalaureate, school. This programs guides students to think with an international mindset. They are one of only four RRISD elementary schools in the district that have the the IB PYP, or Primary Years Programme.
The culture of Anderson Mill, simply put, is diverse, caring, nurturing, community.
The school is located at 10610 Salt Mill Hollow Austin, TX 78750.
