Cedar Ridge Valedictorian to attend BYU, study electrical engineering

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Cedar Ridge High School Valedictorian Lucas Stock has dreams of making a difference in the world and being a part of future technological advances, all of which he will begin preparing for as a freshman electrical engineering major at Brigham Young University.

As the top student in the Cedar Ridge class of 2016, Stock will continue his education with aspirations of working at innovative companies like Google where he can create new technologies while working outside of the box.

“I’ve always had a fascination with learning how things work,” Stock said. “Electrical engineering is part of creating the next wave of technology and it’s something I want to be involved with.”

Along with Cedar Ridge, he also attended Blackland Prairie Elementary School and Ridgeview Middle School during his time in RRISD.

While at Cedar Ridge, Stock was a member the National Honor Society and the varsity basketball team, played football during his freshman and sophomore years and participated in PALS, a peer mentorship program at Forest Creek. Stock was also an active member of his church where he attended daily seminary classes.

While Stock is at the top of his class, his biggest accomplishment during his high school career was earning his Eagle Scout title in 2014. Stock renovated a school courtyard in Austin to create a safe place for children to play.

A love for engineering was fostered in Marie Isokpunwu’s engineering classes at Cedar Ridge. Whether it was a challenging project or thoughtful feedback, Isokpunwu never failed to make Stock feel confident as an engineering student, he said.

“My most influential teacher has been Ms. I.,” Stock said. “She believed in me as a student, but most importantly as a person.”

As a student, Stock has all the characteristics that embody a valedictorian — intellect, terrific work ethic and perseverance, Isokpunwu said.

“What stands out to me as a teacher and an observer is his character,” Isokpunwu said. “Lucas has a contagious smile and he seems to always be upbeat and willing to help others. For me, his regard for humanity places him at the top of his class.”[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/yzD4ow_HNzg?list=PLE8IqSthAqE7ProzvO896CcFOzM7oxG51″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
