Sommer raises $2K for Round Rock Serving Center during economics fair

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]sommer_FISommer Elementary School third-grade classes raised more than $2,336 for the Round Rock Serving Center during its annual economics fair.

The Project Based Learning (PBL) project combined lessons on financial literacy and economics while challenging students to create handmade goods to sell. Each student chose materials that would either be thrown in the trash or recycled and created an upcycled business to raise money for the Round Rock Serving Center.

The classes created promotional materials to place around the school and invited all students to visit the fair, which was held for two hours.

“Items were priced from 25 to 75 cents and our Sommer student body generously bought from our third-grade students,” Sommer Teacher Vicki Caldwell said. “When it was all over, we will be donating $2,336.61 — that’s a lot of quarters. It was more successful than our wildest dreams.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
