Joe Lee Johnson STEAM academy unveils logo, branding

JLJBrand-01Joe Lee Johnson Elementary School, a STEAM Academy unveiled its new branding in anticipation of the campus’ inaugural school year.

The logo, colored in orange and navy blue, features a traditional stallion to signify the school’s mascot, the Trailblazers. The Trailblazer stallion represents a strong, stoic leader who guides others to achievement and success as students.

Joe Lee Johnson Elementary School students, parents and staff worked with Round Rock ISD Graphics Coordinator Zac Colquitt to develop the new logo. Through branding forums, the Joe Lee Johnson Elementary School community discussed the future of the new campus as a STEAM Academy. The new logo was ultimately chosen through an online voting process.

“Joe Lee Johnson Elementary School will challenge and build strong students, making the Trailblazer stallion a perfect logo and mascot to represent our new campus,” said Gabi Niño, Joe Lee Johnson Elementary School principal. “We are excited to open our doors to new students and this strong branding brings us one step closer to building a strong campus culture.”

As a STEAM Academy, Joe Lee Johnson Elementary School instructional staff will focus on the integration of the content area fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. The focus on integration in instruction will remove artificial barriers to make common sense connections between core content areas.

Joe Lee Johnson Elementary School is the 34th elementary school in Round Rock ISD and was funded as a $36.7 million Bond 2014 project. The school is opening as a STEAM Academy, in alignment with the Goal 5 of the District’s Strategic Plan, which centers on creating flexible programs and learning environments.
