Students were thrilled to see the new stage, black box theater, dance studio, keyboard lab, violin lab and flexible learning spaces added over the summer when they arrived at Wells Branch Elementary Arts Integration Academy on their first day of school.
“A fourth grader told me that it was cool to come back to his old school and find out all the wonderful new things here,” said Wells Branch Principal Belinda Cini. “What a rewarding opportunity we have to uncover the unique strengths, talents, and creativity of all our students.”
The campus also added an arts integration coordinator who co-plans and co-teaches alongside the general education teacher to help ensure academic learning is happening through an art form and visa versa.
The Academy approaches teaching based on the belief that arts integration boosts academic achievement, while promoting creativity, self-confidence and school pride. Artistic learning goals are held up as equals to academic standards, and teachers work hard to design lessons that highlight content through art.
