Chromebook drop @ Round Rock High School

Round Rock High School received 3,434 new student Chromebooks on Monday, July 21, as part of a districtwide technology upgrade funded by the 2024 Bond.

The delivery marks one of the largest campus rollouts under Proposition B — a $125.3 million investment voters approved in November.

“All the other ones were 6-plus years old and a lot were damaged,” said Brian Chappius, the district’s manager of Technical Operations. “It was time for an upgrade! These laptops will be faster and will be included with cases that add an extra layer of protection.”

In total, the district purchased approximately 44,000 devices. About 9,000 were delivered near the end of the 2024–2025 school year, with the remaining 35,000 currently being distributed in partnership with GTS Technology Solutions. All student devices are expected to arrive on their respective campuses by the new school year.

The new Chromebooks are designated for student use and represent a major step in providing updated, secure, and high-performing technology across all 56 campuses.

Families are encouraged to review the District’s Chromebook Guidelines for care, maintenance, and usage expectations. New for the 2025–2026 school year: If a Gumdrop case is issued with a Chromebook, it must remain on the device. Damage occurring without the case may result in the student being held responsible for the full replacement cost.

In the event of damage, loss, or failure to return a Chromebook, families are responsible for the repair or replacement cost as of the date the issue is reported. Theft or loss must be reported to the district within five school days and must include a police report when applicable.

With these upgrades, Round Rock ISD is better equipped to support student success in the classroom and beyond.
