Round Rock High School Principal

Round Rock ISD is excited to welcome Gordon Butler as the new principal of Round Rock High School

Butler began his career as an educator, teaching elementary language arts and ESL in 2002. He then transitioned into teaching at the secondary level before starting his educational leadership career in 2009 as an assistant principal in Midlothian ISD.

He brings more than 20 years of experience in education, from instructing in the classroom to leading campuses to administrative roles. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Texas at Arlington, a master’s degree in educational administration from Texas A&M Commerce, a superintendency certification from the University of North Texas, and is currently working on his doctorate in education.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to serve as the next principal of Round Rock High School,” Butler said. “The tradition of excellence that exists with the Dragon Nation is what drew me to this role, and I’m excited to build on the culture and legacy of high expectations to support the students, staff and community.”

Among other educational leadership roles, Butler served as the principal at Lake Travis High School and assistant superintendent in Carroll ISD, with his most recent leadership roles in McKinney ISD as the assistant superintendent of strategic processes and community engagement.

He has focused on putting people first while ensuring a systems-based mindset. Butler said that, between his experience managing the ins and outs of different campuses and being part of larger administrative teams, his goals are focused on engaging students, families and staff while working together to find solutions.

Logan Faris, area superintendent of the Round Rock Vertical Learning Community, said he’s excited to have Butler join the Dragon family.

“He shares our focus on high expectations and building strong relationships while serving the Round Rock community. I am confident he will build strong relationships and strongly advocate for our students, staff, and community members,” Faris said.

Butler’s first day with Round Rock High School is today, July 30.
