Round Rock ISD Board Pres. Tiffanie N. Harrison announced Aug. 21 that she will be stepping down from her role on the board to focus on her growing family. With the announcement, the board will now be tasked with appointing a new trustee to complete Harrison’s unfinished term, which ends in 2026.
“It has truly been one of my greatest honors to serve on this board. As someone who has walked these halls as a student, taught in our classrooms, and served as a trustee in roles from secretary to vice president and ultimately president, I have been honored by the trust this community placed in me,” Harrison said.
“Round Rock ISD has been at the heart of my life’s journey. The students, families, and staff of this district are incredibly special to me, and I am proud of the work we as a board have done to support the Round Rock ISD community.
“As public education faces unprecedented strain, we must remain steadfast in standing with our students and in honoring the expertise and dedication of the educators whose daily work makes learning possible. I leave knowing my colleagues will continue to serve with focus and care, keeping the well-being of our community at the center of their work.
“To the students, families, educators, and staff who make this district so extraordinary, thank you for allowing me to learn, serve, and grow alongside you. I stand in solidarity with our educators, whose knowledge and dedication make public education possible. You will always have my deepest gratitude and unwavering support.”
Harrison, a former teacher at Round Rock High School, has served the district as a trustee since 2020. She will remain in her role as trustee and board president until a replacement is appointed.
Application process
Online applications for Harrison’s Place 6 position open at noon Aug. 22 and close at 5 p.m. Sept. 2. Prospective candidates must live within the district’s boundaries, must consent to a background check prior to an interview, and must provide:
A letter of interest.
A resume
Verification that they are registered to vote within district boundaries.
Candidates should be available to attend all scheduled and called board meetings, as well as training sessions and other events such as graduations. All trustees are unpaid volunteers and are not employees of the district.
The board will review applications individually, and each trustee will recommend one candidate by 5 p.m. Sept. 12 to be interviewed for the position. Each trustee may also submit one interview question, and all candidates interviewed will be asked the same questions.
As a sitting trustee, Harrison will participate in all parts of the vetting, interview and selection process.
Finalists will be invited to interview at a called board meeting on Sept. 17. Interviews will be conducted in open session at the meeting. All candidates must appear in person for the interviews. Candidates will be sequestered until it is time for their interview so that no candidate has an advantage of hearing questions prior to their turn.
Board members will deliberate in closed session following interviews and will return to open session for a vote on the appointment. If trustees reach a consensus on the person to be appointed, the new board member will be sworn in and seated at the dais at the regular meeting on Sept. 18. Trustees will also vote on new board officers on Sept. 18.
