Three Round Rock ISD volleyball programs have been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for their academic achievement during the 2024–25 school year.
Round Rock High School was named to the Team Academic Honor Roll, a distinction reserved for programs ranking in the top 20 percent of grade-point averages among honorees. Cedar Ridge High School and Westwood High School also earned the 2025 AVCA Team Academic Award, which recognizes collegiate and high school programs that maintain a year-long GPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale).
“This is the fifth year in a row that we have won this national academic award,” said Eric Soto, Head Volleyball Coach at Cedar Ridge High School. “I am extremely proud of the tradition of high academic standards that our volleyball program has come to represent.”
In addition, Westwood coach Madison Smith was selected as one of the AVCA’s prestigious Thirty Under 30 award winners, honoring up-and-coming coaches who are making a significant impact in the sport.
“I’m incredibly honored to be named to the AVCA Thirty Under 30,” she said. “It’s a reflection of the mentors, fellow coaches, and athletes who continue to inspire me every day. What makes it even more special is that our team was recognized with the AVCA Team Academic Award, which speaks to the dedication our student-athletes show both on the court and in the classroom.”
Smith said these honors reflect the broader mission of the program.
“Success is something we build together,” she said. “I couldn’t be prouder of the way our players represent both our program and the Round Rock ISD community.”
