Fabian Cuero voted to Trustee Place 6

Trustees at last week’s called board meeting unanimously voted to appoint Fabian Cuero to fill the Place 6 seat left open when Pres. Tiffanie N. Harrison announced she would step down.

A longtime volunteer and a father of two Stony Point High School graduates, Cuero will serve until the expiration of the term in November 2026.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to help the district grow, help improve student outcomes and really get into learning the ins and outs of what it takes to be part of the dais,” Cuero said.

An immigrant from Colombia, he described himself as the son of two parents who didn’t advance beyond third grade, but who were committed to education.

“They had the vision to raise three kids—a nuclear engineer, a computer scientist and an electrical engineer,” said Cuero, who has been an engineer at Dell for 25 years. “Being from Colombia and growing up in Miami, I have the experience that some students don’t have the same quality of education. I grew up getting second- and third-hand books.

“I want to make it a priority that all students are supported, and to work not only on the dais but with admin to make sure that students have the support they need and are reaching their full potential with the district.”

Since moving to Round Rock in 2000, Cuero has actively participated in various programs aimed at enhancing student experiences and outcomes. His roles have included volunteering with the Watch D.O.G.S. program, which engages male family members in school activities to foster positive relationships between students and mentors.

He also served as the chair of the Growth Subcommittee for the 2018 bond and as co-chair for the Citizens Bond Committee in 2024.

Five candidates from a pool of 12 were selected by trustees for an in-person interview before the board on Sept. 17. Cuero was sworn in on Sept. 18 and seated on the dais for his first regular board meeting as a trustee.
