During the Oct. 16 Regular Board Meeting, the district reviewed student outcome goals 1 and 2, which focus on early literacy and early math for students in kindergarten through second grade. The data presented reflect the beginning of the year (BoY), the middle of the year (MoY), and the end of the year (EoY). This student cohort has made significant progress in early literacy over the last three years, and the data indicate that students who begin with the district in Pre-K outperform those who start later, highlighting the strength of the Pre-K program.
Additional highlights:
1. Agenda Item F2: Literacy Partnership: Director of Federal Programs Jill Gumbs and a representative from our district partner, Education Connection, provided an update on the new model for Reading in the RRock Literacy Partnership Program. The program targets early literacy in our Title I schools. The goal of this partnership is to align community resources with the district’s strategic goal, ensuring that every child reads at or above grade level by the third grade.
2. Agenda Item F3: 2025–26 Budget Update: CFO and COO Dennis Covington provided a quarterly budget update to trustees. The amended budget for September reflects a deficit of $11.3 million, as well as the lack of Teacher Retention Allotment funding from TEA. Trustees will hear their next budget update in January.
