Board Brief

During the Jan. 22 Regular Board Meeting, trustees learned more about the Round Rock ISD Police Department’s new First Responders Program. This initiative provides students who are first-time offenders caught with THC vapes a second chance through a collaboration with the Williamson County Juvenile Services and their guardians.

Round Rock ISD Chief of Police Ryan Urrutia explained the importance of the program. “They have the opportunity to be accountable for a mistake they made, recover from it, and not have the lingering effects of what could be a felony offense when they graduate from our district. The benefits of the first offender program, of course, are the early intervention, rehabilitation and education, reduced court involvement.”

Additional highlights:

1. Trustees approved the sale of $300 million in bonds to fund Year 2 projects of the 2024 Bond

2. The board unanimously approved several items on consent, including the purchase list for library materials, the ratification of an interlocal agreement with the city of Austin, and the designation of February as CTE Month.
