Westwood Director of Bands, Brittany Dacy

Westwood High School Director of Bands, Brittany Dacy, has been named a recipient of Yamaha’s 2026 40 Under 40, a national recognition honoring outstanding music educators under the age of 40.

The annual program, now in its sixth year, recognizes educators who demonstrate action, courage, creativity and growth while strengthening music programs in their schools and communities.

Jager Loyde, director of Fine Arts – Music for Round Rock ISD, says the recognition is well-deserved.

“Brittany’s commitment to building a culture of excellence and belonging is evident in every aspect of the Warrior Band program,” said Loyde. “She empowers students to take ownership of their learning while holding them to the highest musical and personal standards.”

At Westwood High School, Dacy leads a program built on the mission statement “Pride, Passion, Family.” She emphasizes collaboration and student ownership, regularly partnering with the orchestra program to perform full orchestra repertoire and guiding students through a structured process to help select concert music.

Beyond performance, Dacy emphasizes character and leadership.

“I talk a lot about how to be a good human during rehearsals, especially with our student leadership,” Dacy said. “I want to help all my students find their voice, support them through their ups and downs and grow.”

She also exemplifies this in her daily life. Because Westwood is an International Baccalaureate campus, Dacy became a certified IB Music teacher to provide advanced coursework opportunities for her students.

Dacy was one of 40 educators nationwide selected from hundreds of nominations submitted by students, parents, colleagues and administrators.
